Lee did everything to revive the story from 14 years ago. the story of Mia Sullivan (Monica Calhoun), wife of Lance Sullivan (Morris Chestnut), requesting the gangs attendance for Christmas because she has cancer, was just too predictable, as were the characters in the story: Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs) and his nine-month pregnant wife Robin (Sanaa Lathan), Julian and Candace (Harold Perrineau and Regina Hall), her best friend Jordan Armstrong (Nia Long) and boyfriend Brian (Eddie Cibrian), Quentin (Terrence Howard), and Shelby (Melissa De Sousa). It looked as a HBO production, but it wasn't. It had enough laughs but it was so clichéd that you could guess in advance what is next, which simply took the joy of watching it, away! Lee - awkward! It is a sequel to the 1999 film, The Best Man and it stars Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Morris Chestnut, Monica Calhoun, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall, reprising their roles from the 1999 film along with the supporting cast. Then again, Howard has a track record for nasty money disputes, so who knows what happens there.I am not a great fan of American Christmas comedy-dramas, and I really found this film directed and written by Malcolm D. In short, everyone in the cast has a good reason to come back- and to not be quite so expensive that they get kicked out.

Even Terrence Howard, an Oscar nominee and Marvel veteran, hasn't had a movie open that big since Iron Man.

Nia Long, who's one of the film's highlights as career woman Jordan, was last seen on the big screen in something called Mooz-Lum, Monica Calhoun's last credit was on TV's Diary of a Single Mom, and Sanaa Lathan was in Steven Soderbergh's Contagion, which still didn't make as much money as The Best Man Holiday Will. Still, most of them ought to be happy to return, salary or not- Taye Diggs' last film before The Best Man Holiday, Baggage Claim, opened to $9 million, while Morris Chestnut last starred in this summer's nasty flop Kick-Ass 2.

Though the entire cast of The Best Man agreed to return for Holiday, and at relatively low paydays given the film's $17 million budget, none of them have options for a third film, which practically guarantees major salary negotiations (this is why Marvel makes people sign nine-picture deals).
